Sports fish
Fishing for sports fish such as trout, salmon, perch and tench requires a Fish & Game licence in Fish & Game waters. Check the licence conditions and local fishing regulations.
Taupō Fishing District and Lake Rotoaira have separate licensing arrangements, explained below.

The normal Fish & Game licence does not apply in the Taupō Fishing District. You need a Taupō fishing licence from the Department of Conservation (DOC) to fish for trout here.

Eels, whitebait and other non-sports species have different rules. A Fish & Game sports fishing licence is not the requirement for these species; check the applicable official rules for your species and location.
